Amazing service - even the chef came out to see if everything was okay! Vegetable samosas are a 10/10!!
The ambience was wonderful as we enjoyed our selected dishes. As each dish came to the table we commented on the stunning presentation. Even the coconut rice was served in half coconuts! Each dish from the vegie curry to the lamb dish was tasty and very distinctive. A fabulous evening was enjoyed.
We recently dined at Mumtaaz Indian bistro and it was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the tone for an authentic Indian experience. The menu is a treasure trove of traditional Indian flavors, with something to satisfy every palate. What truly stood out was the attention to detail in the flavors. Each dish had a depth and complexity that showcased the chef’s expertise in blending spices. The service was impeccable—friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about sharing their culture through food.
Amazing dining experience at Mumtaaz Indian restaurant in Surrey Hills, Melbourne. Delicious food beautifully prepared and presented. Excellent service. Beautiful venue. Kammy and her colleague were friendly and helpful.
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐲 Usually I don't write reviews for restaurant food even if they don't meet my expectations. But I thought that I needed to write a review for the food that I bought from Mumtaaz Indian Bistro, Surrey Hills. This was the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 we ever had from a restaurant in the past 17 years after we moved to Melbourne. The meat and the rice in the biryani was not even cooked properly and the Dal Makhani seemed to be boiled Dal with Onion. We spent around $127 (bill attached) and couldn't even finish the food. We tried to return the unfinished food back to the restaurant and requested to meet the Manager or the Owner but instead the lady staff brought the cook to talk to us. Restaurants like these put the wrong message out and people might think this is what Indian food tastes like. My request to the hotel staff is to please check your food before you serve them to your customers.
Absolutely amazing experience! The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the service was warm and attentive, and the ambience was just perfect—very welcoming. Highly recommend this place for a memorable dining experience. Must try Malai Soya Chap, Butter scotch ice cream and their down to earth dal fry is heaven.
Excellent food and service. We tried several types of naan, all of which were crispy and delicious, butter chicken which was rich and creamy and chicken tandoori which was charred perfectly. The chef also came out to say hi and entertained our little one as we ate! I highly recommend if you live in the East!
Delicious and beautifully presented food with so many great vegetarian options. This will be out new go-to Indian restaurant for dine in and take away. Thank you! 🙂
The prices were far too high for food that didn’t impress. The Tandoori platter for the entrée was decent, but the rest of the meal was underwhelming. The lamb biryani lacked any real flavor, and the pistachio kulfi had way too much mint essence. The naan was tiny and thin for the price they charged, and the mango lassi was a small, tasteless portion compared to other Indian restaurants. The service was lacking, too. The servers weren’t attentive, and we were only given a minimal amount of warm water. When we asked for takeaway containers, we were told there would be a $1 charge per container—after we’d already put the food inside. To spend over $150 and then be asked for an extra $2 felt ridiculous. It was a Saturday night, and we were rushed out by 9:15pm. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and we won’t be returning.
